HEALTH & WELLBEING

We are breaking down barriers to ignite healthy lifestyle changes in our communities, regardless of age, ability, or background. With access to our training facility, sports equipment and qualified coaches, we empower young people to improve their physical health, mental wellbeing and social connectedness.

For young people to thrive, good health is everything. That’s why we turn to the universal language of play — and especially football — to share the knowledge that can save lives. On the pitch, health lessons become games, and serious issues become easier to talk about.

Teachers and coaches we train create safe spaces where children can open up about HIV/AIDS, malaria, sexual health, addiction, and hygiene. With every pass, goal, and laugh, they gain the confidence to protect themselves and their families. And because knowledge alone isn’t enough, we work hand in hand with local authorities to ensure those who need care are connected to vital health services.

Addressing Alcohol and Drug Abuse

In Livingstone, Zambia, alcohol and drug abuse is devastating families and communities, leading to poor health, violence, crime, and risky behaviours among adolescents. Zambia has one of the highest rates of alcohol consumption in Africa and alarming levels of adolescent use, alongside widespread abuse of marijuana, cigarettes, opiates, cocaine, and inhalants.

Play it Forward responds by providing football-based life skills sessions that educate youth on the dangers of substance abuse, how to avoid addiction, and where to seek help.

Empowering Young People in Sexual Health

In Zambia, many young people navigate adolescence without the information and support they need to stay safe, leaving them vulnerable to health risks. Play it Forward tackles these challenges through sports-based education sessions, empowering youth to understand and take control of their sexual and reproductive health. We also connect our beneficiaries to essential health services where necessary.

Building Sustainable Food Sources

In many parts of Zambia, malnutrition leaves many children hungry, sometimes forcing them to skip school. Through our community garden projects, young people, along with teachers and parents, grow fresh fruits and vegetables for school meal programs, gaining practical skills that will stay with them for life and helping their communities thrive.
