EDUCATION

Play it Forward believes all children deserve the chance to learn in a safe and inspiring environment. We support local schools with essential infrastructure improvements and deliver play-based education programmes designed to spark a lifelong love of learning in every child.
Education unlocks possibilities, but many children face barriers to quality learning. Play helps children stay in school, perform better, and develop essential life skills like confidence, creativity, and resilience.
We work closely with the Ministry of Education and other community organisations to integrate play-based learning into the education system, as well as support local schools with essential infrastructure improvements.
Primary School Literacy Support
Reading and writing levels among Zambian children have remained low due to overcrowded classrooms, limited resources and shortage of trained teachers. Play it Forward works to increase literacy rates among children aged 8-14 through targeted initiatives at local schools. These consist of phonics and vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing lessons with numeracy integration, reinforced through interactives games promoting engagement and learning retention. We run literacy programmes year-round and use baseline and end-line assessments to track progress.

Championing Girl's Education
In Zambia, Grade 7 girls drop out of school at twice the rate of boys; by Grade 11, girls drop out at over three times the rate of their male counterparts. Play it Forward runs a number of initiatives targeting adolescent girls who have the passion and desire to pursue their education, but lack the resources and support to do so. These programmes use football to break down gender stereotypes and get girls back into school, ensuring that they remain in education and continue to progress.

Upgrading Essential Infrastructure
Play it Forward regularly works with local community schools and assists in the building of essential infrastructure including classroom blocks, boreholes and latrine facilities. We ensure the schools we work with become better equipped to support the educational journey of the youth in their area.

Supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Play it Forward believes that all children deserve a chance to grow up knowing that they will be able to receive an education. This conviction has driven our work to support orphans and vulnerable children through schooling, providing financial coverage of tuition fees, after school learning support and school materials.
